Location:
The scrimmage takes place in the science classrooms at Peterson Middle School, classrooms E4, E5 and E6. Building E is in the back of the school. Park in the Faculty Parking lot (to the right of the Admin Building) and walk down the service road towards the back of the school. Building E is behind the "Pirates Cove" grassy area. (We can fax a map upon request.)
Fees: Optional $10 donation for sponsoring teachers will be collected at checkin.
Volunteers:
Each participating team needs to provide a "volunteer contact"—someone who is responsible for making sure your team is providing at least one volunteer to help with the scrimmage. The volunteer should checkin the day of the event to get their job assignment. Let us know ahead of time if you want a particular job. Here are some of the jobs:
competition and practice table setup
(arrive at 12:00)
table setters (reset elements between
competition matches)
assistant referees
score keeper
team queue manager
emcee/timekeeper
practice and room supervisors
other miscellaneous jobs
All teams are expected to help take down the pit and competition tables and clean up the classrooms after the event.
What to Bring:
Bring your robot, a cardboard box for transporting the robot, laptop computer, IR tower with cardboard shielding to prevent stray downloads, an extension cord for the computer, LEGO parts for repairs/additions, and extra batteries.
Still Needed:
We still need teams to volunteer to bring equipment:
1-2 Tables for practice *
1-2 Challenge kits and mat for practice
tables
* If you can't bring a table but are located near Sunnyvale, we may be able to pick up your table the morning of the event. Two practice tables are ideal with 8 teams!
Food:
NO food or drinks except water are allowed in the classrooms. However, there's space outside where you can set up chairs and food. Bring a cooler with cold drinks and healthy snacks for needed breaks.
Schedule:
12:00 pm Checkin and Setup
1:00 pm Game Description
1:10 pm Team Introductions
1:15 pm Teams signup and rounds begin
4:00 pm Cleanup
5:00 pm Depart
Rounds:
This is just a friendly competition to practice the challenge in a tournament setting. There will be judges, albeit judges in training, so the competition is realistic. There is no set schedule. Teams sign up for a round when they are ready to compete. Each team has the opportunity to compete in at least three rounds, more if time is available. Rounds will be every 5-10 minutes. There will be no awards but scores will be posted.
Interview and Research Project:
You can also sign up for an interview with judges or to present your preliminary research project. Again, no awards, just constructive feedback. Let us know ASAP if your team wants to present a research project. We may omit the research project if there is not enough interest.
Teams:
The scrimmage is full, with 8 teams registered:
